Web designing with Byo24's developer: Getting started

13 years ago | 8884 Views
Hi thank you for taking time to follow my tutorials. This is the introduction "getting started" where we will be looking at things like, what software to use and why.

What do I need to start designing websites?

1. First thing first you will need a computer, there is no point in trying to follow this iBlog if you will be using a mobile phone.

2. You will need a text editing software "Text Editor", like Notepad, Notepad++(Win), Taxtmate(Mac), Adobe Dreamweaver, etc
There are many Text editors out there, some are free, some are not. As for which one is the best, you wont know until you try them. With me I use Coda and Textmate a lot (Mac) and when I am on Windows I prefer Komodo IDE.

3. You will need to have a graphic editing software like Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Fireworks, Gimp, etc again there are many application that can get the job done. I personally do most of my work in either Photoshop or Fireworks.

4. You will need a web browser eg: Firefox, Internet Explorer(), Google Chrome, Opera, the list goes on but I prefer Firefox because it has great plugins for web developers.

5. You have to be ready to learn new things every day.

To kick start this whole process we will start learning a simple computer language called Hypertext Markup Language (HTML).

HTML according to wikipedia is the predominant markup language for web pages. HTML elements are the basic building-blocks of webpages.

HTML is written in the form of HTML elements consisting of tags, enclosed in angle brackets (like <html>), within the web page content. HTML tags most commonly come in pairs like <h1> and </h1>, although some tags, known as empty elements, are unpaired, for example <img>. The first tag in a pair is the start tag, the second tag is the end tag (they are also called opening tags and closing tags). In between these tags web designers can add text, tags, comments, and other types of text-based content.

The purpose of a web browser is to read HTML documents and compose them into visible or audible web pages. The browser does not display the HTML tags, but uses the tags to interpret the content of the page.

HTML elements form the building blocks of all websites. HTML allows images and objects to be embedded and can be used to create interactive forms. It provides a means to create structured documents by denoting structural semantics for text such as headings, paragraphs, lists, links, quotes and other items. It can embed scripts in languages such as JavaScript which affect the behaviour of HTML webpages.

That said we can now start CODING. Our first project we will be learning  how to create a basic 3 pages website.

Lesson 01: coming soon awaiting your comments ukuthi ngiqale/kuti nditange.(remember my tutorials will be a mixture of Ndebele, Shona and English since this iBlog is mainly dedicated to Zimbos)
